Here are many verses from scripture that encourage us that God hates sickness and wants it removed from the bodies of his people, as well as anything that oppresses us.
I know they’re a lot of verses, lol. Nevertheless I hope these encourage you as much as it’s encouraged me! I’ve loved living more healthy than ever this past year because of these amazing truths from God’s word.
Jesus said-
“..He who has seen Me has seen the Father;..”
John 14:9
So if we want to have an idea of what God thinks of sickness vs health, we look at Jesus-
“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing ALL who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
Acts 10:38
A good pastor once said “if it was God’s will for people to be sick, then Jesus went around undoing all of God’s work, because he healed everyone that came to Him.”
Luke 11:13 says “if we, being sinful, know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more will our Heavenly Father give good things to those who ask Him.” I like to read it this way when I’m telling myself God’s word. If we, being sinful and human, can hate sickness and want our loved ones to be healthy, how much more does our perfect God hate sickness, who’s original design for life on earth had no sickness. There is a real battle in this world, because people do get sick and have fallen. That’s why he tells us we can pray for the sick in James 5:14-15.
“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.”
I’ve been watching faith-feeding YouTube videos from a pastor named Joseph Prince. His scripture-based videos about healing have filled me with so much encouragement and I love what he said once about this verse-
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:10
What he said was “isn’t this amazing! Jesus is giving us a prayer to pray for His will on earth as it is in heaven. Is there any sickness in heaven? No :). Is there any strife in heaven? No. So we can pray for the sick to be healed knowing it’s God’s will. We can pray for good things to happen for us and our loved ones.” All of a sudden this prayer has so much more power. Here’s another one of my favorite verses to pray that prove God wants us well, otherwise he wouldn’t have allowed it to be in his word-
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
III John 1:2
One of the things that magnified God’s love for us even more was that he bore our illnesses so that we can live healed. That’s the purpose of his broken body, and him being the bread of life for us.
“Surely our sicknesses He has borne, And our pains — He has carried them, And we — we have esteemed Him plagued, Smitten of God, and afflicted.”
Isaiah 53:4
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:5
One of the things that encourage me when it comes to sickness, or depression, or pain, is that it does not come from God. God is a good God. In this new covenant age we live in, and because of Jesus, He would never be the one behind placing anything harmful in his children, just as we would never want our children or loved ones to be sick. Any time we have been stolen from, be it in health or anything else, it is not God, but the thief. Jesus came so we can have life!-
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10
