God is a Healer.
If you have ever wondered or been told that it is sometimes God’s plan for someone to be sick or physically unwell, God’s word says-
“Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.”
3 John 1:2 NLT
He wants you well!
This would not be in God’s word if it wasn’t God’s desire for people to be in health.
If people are struggling with sickness, it is not the work of God, nor is he the one causing it. Any time you have something stolen from you, be it joy or health, physical or mental, it is an attack of the devil, for in John 10:10 Jesus says
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Everything Jesus does is the opposite of stealing, killing, and destroying.
A picture of an abundant life is not one in which you are physically unwell. Jesus (the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15)) is showing us his desire for goodness to be in our lives. He is a good God.
If you look in the gospel chapters of Matthew Mark Luke and John, there is not one person that Jesus did not heal when they came to him for healing. He healed them all!
God’s word says “Jesus went about doing good healing ALL who are oppressed by the devil” (Acts 10:38)
and “He is the same yesterday today and forever”. (Hebrews 13:8)
He is still a Healer even today! You can trust him to heal you, because he hasn’t changed since when he walked on earth.
Jesus in Matthew 6:10 showed us one of the ways we can pray to God the Father -
“Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.”
Is anyone sick or in pain in heaven? No! Therefore, to pray for God’s will on earth, as it is in heaven, we can pray for people to be healthy! I can’t tell you how excited I was when I first heard that amazing truth preached! What power it gave me when I learned that you’re praying in accordance to God’s will when you’re praying for physical healing to manifest in yours or your loved one’s lives! No more thoughts of “maybe it’s God’s will, maybe it isn’t.” It is always God’s desire for us to be well. God is a good God.
Even in God’s word, (James chapter 5) it tells us to pray for those who are unwell and pray that they may be healed.
God’s word is truth. (John 17:17) Perhaps you may have gotten a diagnosis from the doctor about a symptom in your body, or perhaps you may be so used to identifying with your pain so much that it seems to become a part of you. Perhaps you’ve been told it’s hereditary. Have hope, friend. Your family may have a history of physical struggles or ailments, but that is not who you are in Christ. (1 John 4:17)
You do not have to accept pain in your body. Many people are still plagued with physical ailments because they don’t know this truth. In Hosea 4:6 it says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. You may have even been discouraged by bible verses that say “trials are inevitable in this life”, which they are, but if you read carefully you’ll find that there is no new covenant verse that promises things like diseases or curses for God’s children, for Jesus has suffered that kind of suffering so we don’t have to. (Isaiah 53:5). God wants you to know that even physical healing is accessible for you in Jesus. Even peace of mind- it is yours to own and enjoy. (see Colossians 1:20) It is purchased for you by his blood. (Galatians 3:13)
God’s word is powerful, and God wants you well. He loves you. If you’re struggling with something in your body today that is troubling you, know this. God sets us free with the power of his word. The more you know this, the more you will start to believe what the word says rather than what your experience is trying to convince you. Know that you who are in Jesus ARE healed. (1 Peter 2:24) No lying symptom in your body can last against the power of God’s word!
“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on HIM, and by his wounds we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:5 NIV
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow..”
Hebrews 4:12 NLT
“My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.”
Proverbs 4:20-22 NLT
Last but not least, I want to provide one more portion of scripture that will dissolve any doubts about God’s heart to heal. Most of us would already know that God is able to heal, but will he? That is the greater question burning in many people’s minds. Jesus said “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.” So here is this verse that shows Jesus is not only able, but also willing to heal.
“And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.”
Matthew 8:2-3
Whatever troubles you, be it big or small, God hears you, and God heals you.
